【ACTIVITIES】【News】International links.The Suzaku Spreads Its Wings—A Documentary of Pingtung University’s USR Project Crossing the Sea to Japan

Pingtung University’s Zhuque Pioneer Project advances rural areas with the concept of shared learning among three teachers (university teachers, pre-service teachers and in-service teachers). In recent years, with funding from the Ministry of Education, it has cooperated with rural schools and local industries in Pingtung County to produce Diversified learning materials and teaching strategies have also initially formed a three-teacher co-learning model. In order to expand the influence of the output results, the Suzaku Project team, led by President Chen Yongsen of our school, visited Hiroshima University in Japan from June 12 to 14, 2023, and participated in the Research Institute for Higher Education of Hiroshima University in Japan. Higher Education Symposium (HERA2023) organized by Education. During this trip, the Suzaku Pioneer Project team exchanged USR project planning, implementation status and results with Hiroshima University. Team members also translated the implementation status into research results and published 4 papers at the HERA2023 seminar, with fruitful results.

Regarding the exchange of regional research results on rural education, Professor Mitsuhiro Onikawa from Japan shared how high schools in rural areas of Japan develop local creative courses under the declining birthrate. One high school connected regional problems and global issues to cultivate global localization. Talent cultivation is called "Global*Local=Glocal"; Professor Lin Xiaowen, host of the Suzaku Pioneer Project of our school, shared the background of the Suzaku Project, the rich and diverse research and development results of physical and digital teaching materials of each sub-project, and talent retention, as well as the past Won the Taiwan Sustainability Action Gold and Silver Awards in the past two years. Moreover, under the SDGs quality education project of THE (Times Higher Education) in 2023, Screen University was ranked 42nd among 1,304 institutions, ranking first in Taiwan. Professor Li Yating, co-host of the Suzaku Project, also shared about the Suzaku extension project "Becoming a Rural Educator", which recruits students from the University of Raman in Malaysia to work with students from Pingshi Masters for a week at Hengchun Shuiquan Elementary School, a USR cooperation site. After the activity, we learned about their practical experience in rural education. The Suzaku team looks forward to establishing a deeper partnership with Hiroshima University in Japan in the future, and working together to improve the quality of international and local rural education.

The Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore wrote in the poem "Life Affects Life": Live yourself as a light, because you don't know who will use your light to get out of the darkness. May every participant of the Suzaku Pioneer Project live as a light and lead rural education to show its own image of hope and light of life.
