【ABOUT LOCALIZATION OF BILINGUAL EDUCATION】
Why do we start this action plan?
Taiwan government has launched the Bilingual 2030 policy precisely to boost the competitiveness of Taiwan's young generation. The policy is expected to further strengthen English communication skills of the citizens, especially among young people, and to help bolster their global competitiveness. To achieve this overarching policy goal, the National Development Council and the Ministry of Education follow the instructions of the President and the Prime Minister to coordinate all available resources to of related ministries/commissions to actively implement the Bilingual 2030 policy.
In recent years, the Ministry has also injected significant resources in schools in remote areas to help them overcome deficiencies regarding English education. However, the remote location of such schools means that there is a relative lack of environmental and cultural stimulation in their surroundings, which poses a challenge for rural students to maintain engagement in English learning. In order to bridge this learning gap and meet the Bilingual 2030 policy, SUZAKU PIONEER project established the action plan, "LOCALIZATION OF BILINGUAL EDUCATION", for our partner schools.
What do we do?
The team of "LOCALIZATION OF BILINGUAL EDUCATION" aims to raise rural students' English learning and speaking skills, foster their ability to use English for learning, and increase their bilingual capabilities in keeping pace with global trends. Not only providing English learning environment for students, but also assisting remote area schools to develop English lessons and augment teachers' capabilities.
The student teachers of National Pingtung University were recruited by the team to partner with students in remote areas for English learning camp and English teaching implementation. Meanwhile, the team combined in-service teacher and students teachers to form a workshop, which deveolped English teaching materials, published English teaching e-books, and produced interactive English-learning animation episodes, "FUN心學英語", for the promotion of rural English and digital learning.
We believe that it's essential that digital learning capabilities be enhanced, so that high-quality English teaching materials can be transmitted to schools via digital technology, thereby supporting teachers’ on-site bilingual teaching and compensating for the lack of resources in remote areas.
Additionally, "LOCALIZATION OF BILINGUAL EDUCATION" target on the preschool children to emphasize their english education and boost children’s English learning motivation, help eliminate the urban-rural gap in English learning, and advance the government’s policy of caring for rural communities.
